Installing Topcon TopSurv on Controllers.
TopSurv is the software for use with the field controllers. This guide should help you keep your controller up to date with the current version of TopSurv.
The latest current version of TopSurv is TopSurv 7.3 and is suitable for the Topcon FC-100, Topcon FC-200 and the Topcon FC-2000 Controllers. Note: TopSurv 7.3 is not suitable for the Topcon FC-2500 Controller, users of the Topcon FC-2500 controllers should use TopSurv 7.2.
Caution: With the upgrade to TopSurv 7.3 it may well be necessary to update the firmware on your controller unit. It is advisable to have your current version of TopSurv so that you can roll back to that if necessary. It is also advisable to have your firmware updated by your dealer, as any mistakes during the installation process will render the unit unusable and will have to be returned to your dealer.
Before starting any installation of the TopSurv software it is wise to make a back up of the data on your controller. Usually the data that you have collected would be stored in the Jobs Folder. The Data Path is typically:- \Storage Card\TPS\TopSURV. Copy the Jobs folder to an external device.
Also make a note of the security codes that are on the controller. These can be found by opening the TopSurv programme and open a job. Touch the Topcon Icon in the top left hand corner and select Activate Modules from the menu. Note down the active module numbers. In my experience, even doing a complete install you don't need to re-install these numbers, but it is worth noting them down anyway.
Download the TopSurv zip file from the website and save it your computer. Ensure that you have downloaded and installed Microsoft Sync Center or Microsoft ActiveSync and that your controller is synchronised with your computer.
If you want to do a complete fresh install then you will need to remove TopSURV from your controller first. This can be done by going to the control panel and selecting the Remove Programs icon and selecting TPS TopSURV to be removed. Otherwise the TopSURV software will be updated. The choice is yours.
Un-Zip the TopSURV zip file and double click the TopSURV Installation icon. The installation will now start and you will need to accept the terms and conditions. You will then have the option of which Projections, Geoids and Import/Export you wish to install.
The process will take about a minute depending on your system and will finish on your computer before completing on the controller. It takes another few minutes to completely install on the controller (based on installing TopSURV 7.3 on a Topcon FC-200).
Once installed (if you did the complete fresh install) copy the contents of the Jobs folder you backed up previously and place in the Jobs folder on your controller ( \Storage Card\TPS\TopSURV\Jobs ).
